We count the total number of words you speak during the 30-second test and calculate your words per minute (WPM). The Web Speech API transcribes your speech in real-time to count words accurately.

Conversational speaking is typically 120-150 WPM. Professional presenters often speak at 150-160 WPM. Auctioneers and fast talkers can exceed 200 WPM. For comparison, average typing speed is only 38-40 WPM.

Most people can speak 3-4x faster than they type. This demonstrates the productivity potential of voice typing — you can capture ideas and write content much faster by speaking than by typing.
